About Greenville, North Carolina
Greenville, North Carolina is located in Pitt County, in eastern North Carolina. It is home to East Carolina University and boasts a wealth of history. Originally founded in 1771 as Martinsborough, the city was later renamed to honor revolutionary war General Nathaniel Greene. With historical roots as an agricultural, tobacco growing and trading community, the city is now regarded as the medical and educational hub of the eastern region of the state.
Travel by Air, Car Rental
Guests can travel into Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) from many destinations. It is 106 miles or a 1 ½ to 2 hour drive from RDU to the city of Greenville. RDU is served by many car rental agencies. The drive from RDU to Greenville is entirely by major highways I-540 (or I-440), US-64, and US-264.
Alternatively, guests can fly into Pitt-Greenville Airport (PGV), a smaller airport servicing Greenville. US Airways and United fly from Charlotte (CLT) to PGV multiple times per day. Car rental agencies Avis, Budget, and Hertz have counters and cars available at the terminal. Enterprise has an off-site shuttle service from the terminal to cars.
Travel by Car
From Durham/Chapel Hill NC
- From I-40: Head east until you reach exit 283 (I-540)
- Take I-540 (N)
- Take exit 26B to merge onto US-264 E/US-64 E toward Wilson Rocky Mt. Continue to follow US-264 E
- After 12.5 miles, US-264 E/US-64 splits; take US-264 E to Greenville
- 264 East will take you directly into Greenville.
- 264 East becomes Stantonsburg Road.
From Routes North/South (from I-95)
- Take exit 119A (Exit will say Wilson/Greenville), which will put you on 264 East.
- 264 East will take you directly into Greenville.
- 264 East becomes Stantonsburg Road.
